Louis XVI style is a style of architecture, furniture, decoration, and art that developed in France during the 19-year reign of Louis XVI (1774–1793), just before the French Revolution.

Louis XVI furniture is characterized by elegance and neoclassicism, a return to ancient Greek and Roman models. Classic revival replaced curves with straight lines and ended the baroque rococo asymmetry. This suited the taste of the English to the extent that they perfected the form and spread it throughout the western world.
